Cape Town Water Site Tour

This tour will take in the Zandvliet Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW) in Khayelitsha, and the Bellville Integrated Waste Management Facility. Zandvliet WWTW’s recent R2 billion upgrade, completed in 2023, increased the plant’s capacity from 72 to 90 million litres per day to meet the needs of the city’s growing population. Utilising state of the art membrane technology, the upgraded Zandvliet WWTW treats wastewater to a very high standard, minimising environmental impact.

While Bellville’s facility itself focuses on solid waste, it operates within a larger integrated system that acknowledges the interconnectedness of different waste streams, including water. Bellville transforms solid waste into a resource through advanced sorting and diversion, maximising recycling and minimising landfill use.
